It’s been a while since our last update. That’s mainly been due to our growing number of customers and stockists keeping us extremely busy cooking and no, we’re not complaining- just extremely glad that you like what we do.
First, we are slowly but steadily increasing our number of stockists. We now have a dedicated page for stockists and we are expecting to add to these in the coming weeks. Second, we continue to receive lots of feedback about our products which has helped us to to subtly refine a few of our recipes and packaging. On packaging, most of our sauces now have labels with suggested uses (some provided by customers). We are also in the process of updating our tag-line from “All loving hand made” to “Modern, African-inspired cuisine” which, many of you agree, better describes the essence of our products. All of our products will of course continue to be hand made with the same love and care. The new tag line will gradually be appearing on our labels over the coming weeks.
Still on packaging, we have invested in new label printing equipment which we hope will help to ensure better colour consistency and print quality on our labels. Now we have found the right packaging, we have also started stocking refills for our very popular reusable PepperSpice Mills. All our bottled products will soon be sporting new tear-off capsule tops for added visual consistency- you’ll see what we mean when you see them!
Third, we will, from Saturday 25 June, begin trading at Broadway Market in East London. This will be in addition to our normal Saturdays at Borough Market.
Fourth, through a chance meeting at Borough Market, Bim’s Kitchen is very pleased to have had the opportunity to work with Ashbell McElveen an American chef from South Carolina who has worked extensively and successfully in the UK. His cooking reflects the wonderful dishes from that part of the States, combining the influences of countries as diverse as Britain, Native America, Africa and France. We worked with Ashbell to develop an exclusive spice mix which he used in the heats of this year’s Laverstoke Park British BBQ Championships Heats held at Taste of London 2011. Ashbell is through to the finals to be held in July at Laverstoke Park and we will be keeping our fingers crossed for him. Look out for more collaborations in the near future.
Next, in response to a number of suggestions, we are working on a dedicated page on our website to list our market days (promised in our last news update!). We hope this will be up and running over the next few days.
We have been doing a number of tasting sessions for a number of our stockists. Our next one is on Saturday 2 July at Stein’s Deli in Padstow- we hope to see any of customers who happen to be in the area.
Thanks once again for your custom, support and good wishes- they make it all worthwhile!
James “Bim” & Nicola
